Behind the Blogger Tag

Jenelle tagged me for this! And I appreciate it, too, because I haven’t been getting a lot of sleep/feeling great mentally in general, which makes writing blog posts kind of hard. And tags are both easy and fun, which is the perfect combination for anything, especially when you’re running low on sleep. I’m beginning to feel better as far as my mood–please let that last and not be a one-day thing–but seriously, I don’t think I’ve gotten a good night’s sleep this week. >_<

1. Why did you start blogging and why have you kept blogging?

Uh…It’s been literally two months, and I’ve forgotten this already? How?

I’m pretty sure I wanted a place where I can talk all I want about fairy tales and Arthurian legend without annoying my family members by jabbering on ceaselessly? I didn’t actually expect to talk about books as much as I do on this blog, but I should have. I can’t even go a day in real life without talking about stories. Whether I annoy my family members or not.

2. What is your favorite type of blog post to write?

I don’t actually know. I love writing about fairy tales. I loved posting a short story online, although it might not be something I do often. I love posting analyses of different legends and things, but those are hard to write.

3. What are your Top Three favorite blog posts?

Ooh! I like this question. And it’s not that hard to answer, because I don’t have that many posts yet. So, let’s see, in order:

Sepideh and the Jinni–An Aladdin Short Story
My first time putting a story out into the big wide world, and it honestly felt really good. And I love the characters? They’ll probably always hold a special place in my heart, even if I do go back a year later and go, ‘OH MY GOSH I THOUGHT THAT WAS GOOD.’ Also my first time retelling anything Aladdin-related. First times are always nice.

Prunella

The fairy tale has a special place in my heart, and so the blog post does, too.

As for third, I’d say it’s tied between

Mordred and Guinevere

and

Le Morte D’Arthur

The first is an analysis of a weird and not-usually-analyzed thing that happened in the early Arthurian legends (aka Guinevere and Mordred hooking up/Guinevere going full-on villainess), and the second is both the first blog post I ever did and an introduction to the series I ended up doing, in which I post chapters of Le Morte D’Arthur with my commentary. Is either post well-written? Nah. Did I love writing them? Yes.

I do feel like the post on Mordred and Guinevere was a bit all over the place, though. (And that was after my sister helped me edit it.) But seriously, I do love analyzing things. Especially these two trash-fire characters. Although I…Honestly, maybe I should just do a whole ‘nother post on my complex feelings on this topic, because I did not do a good job explaining them in that article. Honestly, I don’t even know what my feelings about this are. Whatever they are, they’re complicated enough to probably fill up a blog post, and I won’t bore you with them here.

And on a side note, I still can’t figure out what it is with characters in Arthurian legend getting together with their nephew-in-law? Why is this a thing?

Also. I LOVE THAT CARTOON I DID OF GUINEVERE OH MY GOSH. But I can’t get it to a point where it does not look fuzzy when I size the picture down and that makes me sad. (also, can anyone even read my handwriting? I can read it, but can anyone else? I am actually not sure. My…my lettering is awful.)

4. What are some of your favorite things to do to relax?

1. Blogging
2. Napping

I have a thrilling life, you guys. But I also take walks to help me relax? So that counts.

5. What are three of your favorite things?

My computer, my books, and Microsoft Word. #deep

6. What are your proudest blogging moments?

I haven’t been blogging for very long, but I love whenever someone comments on my posts, and I loved getting positive feedback on my short story. Thank you, guys 🖤

7. What are your hobbies outside of blogging?

Well, writing isn’t really a hobby so much as a soul-sucking passion that scoops you out from the inside and dumps it all on the page. At least for me. Usually. Drawing would probably be more of a hobby for me; I draw occasionally, and it’s a light pastime, except I feel like a hobby should cause less gaping insecurities. I guess the closest answer would be sewing, but I’ll be honest, I haven’t been sewing much at all this year.

8. Describe your personality in three words.

Uh. This is harder than it should be.

Multifaceted, complex, indescribable-in-three-words. There.

9. What are your top three pet peeves?

Ooh! When a TV show or movie or whatever is set in a historical era, but all the actors conform 101% to modern-day beauty standards. Look up pictures of that TV show The Tudors, okay? Those characters are supposed to be Henry VIII

and Anne Boleyn,

and other characters from that time period. I haven’t watched the show, so I can’t comment on the quality of their acting, but would it have killed them to have a slightly fat Henry VIII? An Anne Boleyn that didn’t look like a modern prom queen? And you probably could have kept the same actors and just styled them in a way that made them look less glaringly modern. Why would styling the actress for Anne as a more mature-looking, slightly older woman make her less attractive? I find that portrait of Anne Boleyn incredibly beautiful.

Karolina Zebrowska, a youtuber who has a channel on historical fashion, pointed out that, in the 1995 adaptation of Pride and Prejudice, the actress for Jane doesn’t necessarily conform to all of today’s beauty standards (although I personally find her looks amazing), but she looks exactly like she stepped out of a painting from the Regency time period. And do I feel pulled out of the story each time I look at her? Not at all!

Anyway, time to end the screed, it’s not like my books are historically accurate at all. I HAVE NO HIGH GROUND, OBI-WAN. What else do I find annoying?

Oh yes! Packaging that is IMPOSSIBLE TO OPEN. Not only did the company want to deter thieves, they also wanted to deter any and all customers. Their products are not meant for the unworthy.

Also people in medieval movies who don’t wear a veil or cover their hair at all for some reason. But I promised I wouldn’t start up again with the historical accuracy screed.

10. What’s something your followers don’t know about you?

Okay, firstly…Becky is actually a pen name. It all kind of started as a joke? See, my extended family got my name wrong when writing an obituary. My name is absolutely nothing like Becky. We don’t see that side of the family very much, so I guess that’s why it happened (Facebook is a click away, guys. Just saying). So, my mom and I were laughing about it at the time and saying that I should take up Becky as a pen-name, and once I decided to start this blog, I asked Mom if I should use my real name or a pen name for this, and Mom joked about calling myself Becky. And thus Becky came to be.

And I should probably clarify (before you think I’m a sociopath or something lol lol that’s DEFINITELY not true) that my mom was really sad about the death, but my family tends to joke a lot, probably to make ourselves feel better in situations like that.

And another thing, I feel like usually I’m a pretty upbeat person on this blog, but in real life I can be pretty negative at times? It’s not necessarily always an awful quality, but I can get into states where I feel like everything I do is bad. Which is obviously not good.
